What is Bahamas Methodist Habitat?
Bahamas Methodist Habitat (BMH) is a disaster relief and emergency home repair outreach ministry of the Bahamas Conference of the Methodist Church through which volunteers work together to repair and build homes for low income families in the Bahamas. The goal is to improve the living conditions and lifestyle for families in need in the Bahamas, while offering transforming experiences for volunteers and homeowners alike by sharing and receiving the Love of Christ.
"The Bahamas Conference of the Methodist Church (BCMC) has been providing disaster relief to Bahamians since 1992, when Hurricane Andrew devastated many communities throughout the islands. Today, Methodist Habitat continues these efforts and avidly seeks new ways to assist individuals and communities in need."
Where is BMH?
"Camp Symonette is the nerve center of Methodist Habitat. Staff members, interns and long term volunteers handle the day to day operations from this facility in James Cistern, Eleuthera. Volunteer teams working in central Eleuthera will stay at Camp Symonette. Housing consists of two dorms (one for males, one for females) and can accommodate up to 50 volunteers. The large dining room has an industrial-sized kitchen... The cross... welcomes teams to the camp and reminds us all that we are walking on 'Holy Ground.'"
