Sunday School

What is Sr. High Sunday School?

As the name suggests, this is an educational time for high school students that takes place on Sundays. Don't worry! Unlike school, you don't get homework, you don't have to take any tests, and you don't end up with a teacher you can't stand (hopefully). :-) We spend our time learning about God in ways that actually mean something to teenagers. So put aside any preconceived notions about Sunday School and give it a try.

In the Sr. High class, we spend the first 15 minutes of our time in fellowship. What's that mean? Well, you get to talk to your friends, catch up on the week's events, and just relax. The next 45 minutes is our lesson time. Lessons may or may not include reading the Bible. Why's that? Well, the curriculum is generated based on what you, the youth, want to learn. In the past, we've talked about world views (e.g. Deism, Naturalism, Humanism, Existentialism, etc.), the "Bad Girls" of the Bible, the book of Revelation, friendship, stress, "How to deal with your parents without losing your mind," Christianity's relation to/with other religions, knowing/defining who you are, spiritual gifts, and other faith questions.

When is Sr. High Sunday School?

The Sr. High Sunday School class is held every Sunday morning at 10:45am in the Youth Room. The class is currently taught by one of the youth counselors, Dave Lanzer, with other people stepping in to teach when he's out of town (which is not very often).

Do I need to bring anything?

If you have a Bible in a version that you like - such as the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), New International Version (NIV), or Contemporary English Version (CEV) - please feel free to bring it with you. In the Youth Room, we have enough Bibles in the CEV for a lot of people. It is nice to have a few different versions of the Bible because each one lends itself to a little different angle on the meaning of different passages we read.

Other than that, just come with a heart for God and excitement to learn about Christian faith. If you have a friend you think would be interested in a relaxed, teen-related style of Bible study, invite them to join us on Sunday morning. We have a great group and always love to have more join us.
